Campaign Introduction

Welcome!

If you're reading this then hopefully you've found what you're looking for!  This is a blog that will narrate a series of RPG sessions that take place in Tolkien's Middle-Earth.  Specifically we will be using The One Ring, a game published by Cubicle 7.  This is a wonderful production that very admirably captures the spirit of Tolkien's work.  If you haven't played it, I highly recommend it!

These narratives will be done in a way that is just that - through storytelling. I will not be going into details on mechanics nor will I be describing things in 'game terms.'  I will essentially be putting the game into a (hopefully) readable, story-telling format.  If you're interested in the mechanics feel free to ask in the comments and I'll let you know why/what occurred or if I'm using any house rules (I do use a few).

Setting:

Our campaign is beginning in the year 2947, about six years after the defeat of Smaug the Dragon.  All of the characters are brand new characters, however the world is somewhat lived-in.  I had been running a campaign with just my wife and one other friend using many of the adventures found in the Tales From Wilderland supplement.  We never finished all of those tales and so I have put this campaign in that same iteration of Tolkien's world.  This will have little impact for a while, but it is worth noting if you're familiar with those tales.

Characters:

As follows is a brief description of each of the six characters currently in our campaign.  Much of the back-stories I am leaving out so as to not spoil any future adventuring.

Amaranthae:  An elf-maiden of the Mirkwood Elves, Amaranthae has lived in the forest her entire life.  She remembers tales of Greenwood the Great before the evil appeared and has even journeyed south to spy upon the Fortress of Dol Guldur.  Her desire is to protect her native wood from further evil.

Faundalyn:  Another elf of Mirkwood, Faundalyn is an elf-maiden who is very in touch with nature around her.  Like Amaranthae, she too seeks to protect Mirkwood from harm, not just for the sake of the Elves, though, but for the sake of every individual bird, beast, plant, and stone.

Hrathgor and Rasec:  These two are brother Dwarfs who originally hailed from the Blue Mountains in the far west, but were kicked for trouble-making and exiled to the Lonely Mountain, which they've called home for some time.  While they are stone-workers and traders by profession, they're not afraid of getting their hands dirty to make an extra penny.

Ulmarr:  Our only human, Ulmarr hails from Esgaroth and is a former member of the Night Watch and still retains his membership with the Bowman's Guild.  He has a growing wanderlust and has left his stable position to see more of the world.

Silmarwen:  The fairest of the company is Silmarwen, a High-elf of Rivendell.  After studying for centuries in the halls of Elrond, Silmarwen has decided it is time to see the world first-hand and has set off to the east, over the Misty Mountains, to learn what books could never teach her.
